Hostel Escapes
Whilst taking time out to be a young mum and run the seaside hostel in Port Eynon (YHA), I realised what a sanctuary it was for the hostellers. Being close to nature and the elements whilst stepping away from the daily life/work balance to calm, heal and restore was so essential for many people. A chance for positive, peaceful reflection in an otherwise busy world.
Collaborating with local artist Mary Hayman, we ran ‘Paint and Paddle’ residential holidays for young families. A chance to share together and enjoy creating together in nature before the children began school; a ‘pre-forest school!’
Also, during this time, Duke of Edinburgh residential teams came in the summer to do beach clean-ups and prepare treasure trails in the local environment for school children and hostel visitors to take part in. They also had the chance to try different water sport activities and explore their creative cookery skills at the hostel.
